Using TA-Lib for Technical Analysis || Python for Financial Analysis and Algorithmic Trading

7 054 views | 17 Apr. 2020

In this Python tutorial,

In this Python tutorial, Dr Tom Starke demonstrates how you can implement technical analysis using real market data, and generate trading signals from technical indicators such as Doji, Bollinger band, dual-moving averages, as well as analysing the resulting performance (e.g., position size, profit and loss). All using just several lines of Python codes!

How to install TA-Lib:

This article from Quantinsti https://blog.quantinsti.com/install-ta-lib-python/) seems to be the most promising way to install TA-Lib anywhere.

However, for alternative suggestions, follow the guidelines in this link: https://mrjbq7.github.io/ta-lib/install.html.

To learn more on using Python for quantitative finance and trading, as well as getting the Jupyter Notebook for this tutorial, check out our Udemy course at: https://www.udemy.com/course/python-for-traders-and-investors/learn/lecture/18315580?referralCode=D26278FF40FCB735C68C

Thank you, very useful.

Tech Petla

Pretty nice demonstration. Keep doing good job.

Very helpful tutorial!

`pip install ta-lib` will fail unless the library has been installed, the 2nd link above or the github README have good instructions to do this.

Marcelo Canetta

Hello! Why do yo use .values? Is it necesary?

Alex Law

Hello Dr Starke

I tried running your codes but seems there's two sections that are not correct:

Issues#1:
plt.xlabel('PnLs')
Error: Str object is not callable

Issue#2
plt.plot((np.sign(sma_diff[101:-ret_wdw])).rolling(ret_wdw).sum(),'-o')
Error:'numpy.ndarray' object has no attribute 'rolling'

Could you please kindly advise how to fix these two errors, thanks.

There is a version of Python that is resident in the Google Colaboratory suite. As such this is a virtual programming environment. Can TA-Lib be adapted for use in a virtual programming environment?
