I am sad for the land of my ancestors. Possibly a sign of times to come for us all. There might be no way out of greed driven capitalism without total collapse.

Stop printing money for a few years and then perhaps the Lebanese people will again trust their currency.

How this wealthy nation turned homeless overnight?????

Legend g

Lebanon is such a beautiful country feel sad for them government should fix the problems

M Ray

Some people are so stupid to think that this is caused by dolar as being the dominant reserve currency. The reserve currencies are not the cause. If you consume more than you produce and make your economy completely dependent on continuous debt, sooner or later you will face the consequences. My country Turkey is in the same path with Lebanon and unfortunately I can see the future of my people in this video.

People here blaming Iran, Israel, US.. but nobody blames the Lebanese government which has borrowed hundreds of billions and squandered it and now cannot pay it back.

Romania has the same problem, we got the most corrupted state in Europe, we will soon collapse in the same way because of the incompetent government and mafia... :/

"Whoever controls the volume of money in our country is absolute master of all industry and commerce...when you realize that the entire system is very easily controlled, one way or another, by a few powerful men at the top, you will not have to be told how periods of inflation and depression originate."
~20th President James A. Garfield before assassination.

"Let me issue and control a nation's money and I care not who writes the laws."
~Mayer Amschel Rothschild

"It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their own selfish purposes."
~President Andrew Jackson 1834

"If the people only understood the rank injustice of our money and banking system, there would be a revolution by morning."
~President Andrew Jackson, 1834

“If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around, will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”
“I sincerely believe that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale.”
~Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1816.

"Today no war has been declared—and however fierce the struggle may be, it may never be declared in the traditional fashion. Our way of life is under attack. Those who make themselves our enemy are advancing around the globe. The survival of our friends is in danger. And yet no war has been declared, no borders have been crossed by marching troops, no missiles have been fired.
If the press is awaiting a declaration of war before it imposes the self-discipline of combat conditions, then I can only say that no war ever posed a greater threat to our security. If you are awaiting a finding of “clear and present danger,” then I can only say that the danger has never been more clear and its presence has never been more imminent."

“That is simple. In the Colonies we issue our own money. It is called COLONIAL SCRIP. We issue it in proper proportion to the demands of trade and industry to make the products pass easily from the producers to the consumers. In this manner, creating for ourselves our own paper money, we control its purchasing power, and we have no interest to pay no one.”
~ Benjamin Franklin before the first central bank

"...You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot further brotherhood of men by inciting class hatred.
You cannot establish security on borrowed money..."
~Abraham Lincoln

"The death of Lincoln was a disaster for Christendom. There was no man in the United States great enough to wear his boots and the bankers went anew to grab the riches. I fear that foreign bankers with their craftiness and tortuous tricks will entirely control the exuberant riches of America and use it to systematically corrupt civilization."
~Otto von Bismarck
after Lincoln funded the civil war with $450 million dollars GREENBACKS printed by the goverment with no interst/debt.

Such is the fate of every fiat currency.

Some of the most corrupt and criminal politicians in the world. Even a dictator will do better as at least only one pocket is being lined. Whenever the people come at those mafia politicians they play out the religious sectarian tactic to divide us. The young generation has had enough of this bs but the older generation still stuck in the past.

the world bank. say no more......

I came here to see about Lebanon. But the taxation global watch dog story was far more interesting. Globalism is dying and these guys are oblivious. All this global economic transparency business is on its way out. How about this, for an idea... don't worry about it. I'm glad the US is #2 on the list. I live in Texas, we don't even have a state income tax.... That must drive you guys nuts! Taxation has gone way beyond what it was eve intended to be. The reason it is so hard to track, is because it has become so complex. There are taxes on top of taxes. I have a retirement account that I don't pay tax on, as long as I don't touch it until retirement. I bet that drives you nuts too. Money comes straight out of my earnings, before the government ever gets to count it, and goes into my retirement. How evil am I?!?!?!!! Globalism was a failed experiment. Europe is just about the last place that is hanging on to it. It's weird watching that mentality stick. Wake up Europe.... there can't be globalism if no one else is playing along. Get over yourselves, count your own money, don't worry about mine! Sicko bank account voyeurs.

I mean, the tissue paper that people use to wipe their asses with, is ACTUALLY more expensive than the Lebanese currency???

Lebanon is a huge financial problem that nobody want to look at. Facts are many for the situation country is facing...they don't have any exports..the main national product is people. Those ones who manage to step out of the country don't go back. They establish business and life whichever country open the door to them..they marry and get by all means to get citizenship..like Australia for intance...Second, lebanese have high maintenence style of life..they need everything imported and if is coming from France has a high price to be sold but very much appreciated of course! Manufacture is very low so they barely can produce for the locals. The ones who are paying the taxes and maintain a bit up the economy are the Armenians. Tourism is dead as is a conflict zone. The high immigration of Syrians to Lebanon it mark another problem as they look for help that Lebanon barely can do. In summmary: no tourism, no local industry, high demand in services and style of life, no locals living in that could produce anything to the country. The relief is the international transactions that banks and agents can get from overseas to feed their families living in Lebanon but barely can afford for the locals to live. The last but not least..the big gap in between religions. The country is divided in 2: Christians and mulisms that don't go along with each other. A corrupted political system and no support from other countries. France help a bit but is not much interested to go beyond as France has the largest population of muslims, iligal immigrants and their own political problems. Is a beautiful country that I visited in 2009 but sadly i found emptiness. Is a separated country with huge differences..starting from the religion point of view and that hezbollah also is contributing to decrease the economy. If the own lebanese don't go back to their home country how in this planet you expect at least to promote tourism....? Very sad situation.
