9 Ways Bitcoin Is at an All-Time High - Ep.152

2 971 views | 20 Nov. 2020

Nic Carter, general

Nic Carter, general partner at Castle Island Ventures, and cofounder and chairman of Coin Metrics, explains why the Bitcoin price has been rising without the retail bubble seen in 2017-2018. In this episode he covers:

● how this Bitcoin rally differs from the ones in 2017-2018 and why the market is much more mature

● how much the pandemic and other macro forces this year have helped propel Bitcoin

● what it says that the number of Bitcoin addresses with $10 or more worth of bitcoin are is at 18 million now, compared to 2014 in the 2017-2018 bubble

● the significance of realized cap, and why there's less pressure to sell now since the current cost basis of all bitcoins is much higher than in the bubble

● the significance of the fact that open interest in CME Bitcoin futures hit $1 billion this week — and why, even though they're cash-settled, they do impact the Bitcoin price

● what the appreciation of the Bitcoin price in other countries' currencies such as Turkish lira means

● what it means that the stablecoin free float has grown from $1.5 billion in the last bubble to $23 billion during this rally

● what he makes of the theory that Chinese miners are having difficulty to sell their BTC being a driver of the price rise

There is genius in making complex concepts simple to understand. Unfortunately this guy did not do that. Still the best crypto podcast out there

Diego Nunes

Super interesting! Living in Argentina I definitely agree that unstable currencies in our countries make cryptocurrencies very attractive. Does Nic have any post like a "ranking of unstable currencies related to bitcoin usage"? If so, could you share it? Thanks!!

I wish I had a Bitcoin for every spammer comment on YouTube bitcoin videos

Anonymouse 1

Would be great to get more background about the last question about 'miners selling Bitcoin' ... I did not understand the reasoning that they can't get rid of their Bitcoin''' everyone is buying.

Fitz Jr. Campbell

Love the alligator ? sir! Lol ?

Haha... I see Peter Schiff is still giving you the single dislike on your videos. ?

Taylor Roberts

Thanks Laura, another great interview ?

Serious alligators ha!

Really bright guy ! So worth listening to

Vitalik Buterin on Ethereum's Five-Year Anniversary - Ep.183

21 978 views | 28 Jul. 2020

Vitalik Buterin,

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, shares his thoughts on the five-year anniversary of Ethereum, challenges with ETH 2.0 and criticisms about DeFi. We discuss:

his thoughts and feelings ahead of Ethereum’s five-year anniversary

how to address the high gas fees on the Ethereum network

whether the complexity of Ethereum 2.0 creates a risk for the security of the network

whether staking will lead to a higher focus on ETH price and issues such as monetary policy

how he looks at the ETH price with its significance for security in Ethereum 2.0

how proof of stake systems can be more democratic

whether staking lends itself to the kind of securitization that looks similar to mortgage-backed securities

his concerns about DeFi

the most optimal way for DeFi projects to distribute their tokens

his thoughts about Bitcoin on Ethereum

inherent risks to Ethereum users connected to China’s Blockchain Service Network (BSN)

his views on DCEP, other CBDCs and Libra

the indictment of Ethereum Foundation staff member Virgil Griffith for allegedly helping North Korea to circumvent sanctions

how he plans to make the Ethereum Foundation more transparent

whether lack of diversity would impact the success of Ethereum in the long term

where he would like to see Ethereum in the next five years

Nice video but I don't really need this because I let my expert trader handle my trades and make me profits. Mr. Mitchel Humpries.

THAT is how to interview. Top notch. New subscriber earned.

F13 Media

great content !

Alex Lee

Why is mainstream use of the ethereum blockchain taking some long?!

Haha Vitalik thinking towards the end why did i agree to another interview! Well done on asking the tough questions. One constructive piece of feedback - i kind of feel like you made him feel bad about a few things - less judgement on your end could definitely be an improvement. Yes ask the tough questions but i think being impartial is important.

L. Rhymes

How does this channel not have over 20k subs??

Johnna Smith

Such quality content, thank you Laura

Achilleas N

Definitely keeping Ethereum long term

Margarito Pineda

I love how she's not hesitant to ask tough questions like the stuff about Virgil and diversity in the foundation! Great journalism.

Zach Meador

The crypto space attracts some really incredible people. Laura, you're one of the best interviewers I've ever ~witnessed~. Your attention to detail, and ability to politely+fairly grill someone, is fantastic. Can't wait to see the media empire that you'll end up creating as this space grows more. Kudos

Vince G

good to know that Ethereum will never have a block time under 6 seconds. User experience wont be fast for dapps so users and dapps should move to EOS

One of the reasons that Ethereum is still EXTREMELY UNDERVALUED is because almost every crypto and thing is built on Ethereum! Ethereum will surpass the price of Bitcoin one day! Mark my words!!

Banter City

Did Vitalik give the voiceover for Stephen Hawking?

Crypto elf

Lets not make this political. Seemed like bait. He handled it perfectly.

donnie gebert

How does this shitcast get Vitalik. #propaganda

Travis Huff

Epic interview and ETC IS THE FUTURE!!

Vishal C

What was that? 13:10

Rohit Chowdhary

yay Go Vitalik Go !!

Alice Crypto

Professional host with professional questions

he is just a script kid without any clue about the world. not worth listening too.

"coin supply maximalists"...
labeling groups of ppl because they disagree with you is just so pathetic. typical for a hyper specialized kid who run away because the big bois had a more reasonable agenda than him.

Great interview, with some very brave, yet professional questioning. Nice job!

???? Laura Shin has the best intro music:

She asks good questions.

Amadeu Alexandre

Great interview, got a new subscriber.

Hey vitalik, I'm still waiting on my X2 eth sent back to me

2b Frank

Lol that intro got me movin

Victoria Manley

Not all people in North Korea are bad, and you dont have to be a bad person if you go to North Korea! Perhaps it is nice for the good people of North Korea to have access to a crypto expert.

"The most brutal regime on the planet" are you aware of the usa and uk? Which has killed and oppressed more people?? Or what's your metric of 'brutal'?

Ivan Rogic

Love the interview! Subbing

Digital Asset News

The smartest interviewer in the crypto space. Great questions. Complex answers.

Vitalik a gift from Aliens. Brilliant mind.

David Self

Vitalik is the type of human we should be promoting.. Instead we promote people like Kim Kardasian, Honey BooBoo etc.. He would be a MUCH better role model to children, and adults alike.

Anil K Gurung

Listening to Vatalik interview always make me believe in the Eth future. I am long in Eth. Amazing interview with outstanding qsns.

Metal Bum

What a brilliant nice kid.

Luca Pompei

Laura never ceases to amaze, every interview and her questions, keep me glued to the screen. Thank you for such great content!!

R Tg

Ask him why he blocked @Oudekaas when oudekass brought this up:
"The forth like language in Bitcoin was intentionally build without OPcodes that loop. SPECIFICALLY designed that way, and it remains unreal, that @VitalikButerin managed to get millions for a design that allows looping within. Making it unsafe, complex and unscalable...." https://twitter.com/dickcata/status/1279804296217927681

"why didn’t Vitalik work out Bitcoin is turing complete?" https://twitter.com/dickcata/status/1279797259702501377

Proof of Stake is easy to subvert. ... and they're simple to Sybil. https://twitter.com/dickcata/status/1279789223923650560

"You can't shard it. The only way you could shard it is to have one group dictates what happens." https://twitter.com/dickcata/status/1279791743001669632

That's part of how PoS works. It's an infinitely inflatable system designed to keep the maximum holders as maximum holders.

"While PoS seems like a cool idea on paper, we can look at a similar live implementation running on EOS utilizing Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) to see some of the issues that arise with regards to governance, network robustness, coin distribution, and voter manipulation."
"Not only did Delegated Proof of Stake run into issues in its governance, it is also important to note EOS was a premine just as ETH, both with no hard cap on total supply (inflation)." https://twitter.com/dickcata/status/1279795351634001921

"How can it be that Bitcoin is Turing Complete and all these people are saying that it isn't? And that Ethereum is better than Bitcoin because it is Turing Complete because they didn't understand."

"He made all these altcoins look so silly". https://twitter.com/dickcata/status/1279797668802433025

The security model is one survives, or none survive.

There's no such thing as inter-blockchain. This ends in one or none. It's a binary decision. https://twitter.com/dickcata/status/1279756166545932290

There's only one Internet. There's not hundreds of different networks.

"... just like we operate on a single global Internet, we will operate one day on a single public blockchain".

When you have one blockchain that can scale to virtually unlimited capacity, and enables micropayments with fees in the order of a very tiny fraction of a cent, and enables all kinds of computations or operations frictionless onchain, there's no need for another blockchain.

You may want to know how is it that you haven't heard about all these before. You would understand after you've read this article by Mike Hearn.

Who is Mike Hearn?

"Blockstream, they sent me quite a hell of a lot of stuff. I've got quite a few hats of stuff but I'm not supposed to wear them on that. They do actually sent me a plan as such which is why my show is crappier than planned. What they're going to tell me to do is to make sure I do attack BTC and BCash so it doesn't look like I'm financed by them." https://twitter.com/dickcata/status/1279725280920317953

Latest saga someone signing a message from 145 address

Even managed to infiltrate into Wikipedia https://twitter.com/dickcata/status/1279722660851789824

"The medium post of Craig is completely written in plain language @jimmy_wales, it is either true or false, nothing to do with it being gibberish. It’s like you need it to be gibberish.... Why is that Jimmy? Why does it matter to you?" https://twitter.com/oudekaas3/status/1245250534887641088

Did you know that the "Satoshi Nakamoto" and "Bitcoin" wikipedia pages are locked and maintained by Blockstream? They also delete all new Bitcoin SV pages and they just redirect it to Bitcoin Cash. This is suppression. https://twitter.com/murphsicles/status/1285030561954897922

The censorship of online forums amplifies this closed-mindedness. They’ve successfully created echo-chambers which can be hard for newcomers to escape from. The BTC community also suffers from a mindless focus on price speculation—even when the underlying utility of their project has been destroyed—which dissuades real builders from their project.

Vitalik is definitely not into audio quality.

Gaël des Montagnes Noires

ETH will be the next black swan☠

come on Vitalik , why you always have to sound like you are tuning in from some bomb shelter in ex soviet block , buy a good headset or something IDK

Excellent interview, great question and the interviewer definitely understands the game. Just a bit clumsy to attempt to have Vitalik condemn a foreign regime while he obviously doesn't want to

John Ny

Vitalik seems to be unaware of renBTC. It's a decentralized bridge between BTC and ETH.

Mario Kuschel

move fast, increase complexity and break everything.

Great questions and thanks for sitting in the hot seat Vitalik! It was a pleasure to hear your perspective on all of these topics.

look! an alien !

Ian Oyler

Great interview, ETH to $420

Andy Schleck

Making money ? online is not just to invest blindly or rush into the market,as it is the best advised to ensure you are in the right track and the right time.As a trader, right now is so much Believe cryptocurrency is worth going into at the moment mostly as the market is in a bullshit trend,as we can take full advantage to make money ? if you find the right strategy/daily signals. For me bitcoin trading has being so successful because I got involved in day trading and follow strategy and signals provided by a pro trader known as Elon Musk. Elon strategy/Signals has yielded a great success so far for me.During my first month of trading I was able to grow my portfolio ? from 1.2btc to total of 6.8btc which you will say it’s a very good profit,no time is ever too late to start buying and grow a very strong ? portfolio ahead of the major bull market.Elon can be reached via WhatsApp:+1 (501) 483-8431 or Email ?:[email protected]gmail.com

There is so much inefficiency in the marketplace. Sending coins here sending coins there sending coins everywhere. Why can we not just have 1 wallet that interacts with all exchanges and all coins!

John Ny

Interview was excellent up the point where you were virtue signalling and trying to shame Vitalik on North Korea, transparency and diversity. Come on. This community of open source developers has done more for humanity than all of the hyper politically correct left combined.

Robert Wight

When I took your survey, I suggested you interview Vitalik again. I didn't think you actually would so soon! Very cool!

John Ny

What is he saying at 54:34? Couldn't understand accoustically.

always new

ETH is a sect coin with blind followers around a nonchalant guru financed by secret millionaires and billionaires whom have a hand in every crypto out there??pump and dumping on everyone all the time

Quaison Carter

Did anyone else notice how after laura commented at 1:14:21 that North Korea was “the most brutal regime in the world” 1. Vitalik visibly looked like he wanted to raise an objection and or question that statement 2. There was a clear jump cut in the video as if his response was cut out? It also happened again at 1:18:18 when he was defending his colleagues for being geopolitically open minded.

she asks great questions. Awesome interview.

Michael Labella

Excellent video!
